Welcome to the Death of Fashion
If you find yourself yearning for an exploration that delves into the intersection of fashion, psychology, and its profound impact on history, then look no further.
Dearest subscribers,
Welcome to The Death of Fashion newsletter, a must-read for those who are seeking a departure from the leggings-dominated trends, Amazon sets, and constantly dressing down. This is where we talk about how fashion has died, its impact on history, some bits about its psychological influence, what to wear, and more importantly some much-needed fashion humor. After lurking on the fringes of this platform, I've mustered the courage to find my own voice and start this newsletter. My main objective is to provide fashion nourishment, humor, comfort, and content to make you feel like we’ve been friends since high school.
Throughout my life, one thing has remained constant, my connection with fashion. It's not just a passion; it's the very essence that breathes life into me, an irresistible force that continuously draws me back for more.
WHY I’M STARTING A NEWSLETTER

I’m Betsy Cohen, a 37-year-old American, with two boys under the age of five, navigating this busy life with the English guy I married seven years ago. Those who know me would tell you that I hold a profound affection for strong black coffee. They would also say that they’ve seen me running around in heels at the playground. I’m in the chapter of my life where I can’t wear white, courtesy of young children. I’m the founder of Zophia, a custom pencil skirt service based in Washington, D.C. My observation of customer preferences spans a decade. I’ve watched people choose fast fashion over and over again. I don’t consider myself immune to this. I too am guilty of indulging in the allure of instant gratification. The demands for fast fashion, coupled with the catastrophic impact of a pandemic, have yielded the perfect storm. It created what I like to call the “Death of Fashion”.
The Death of Fashion newsletter mission :
Challenge the fashion status quo
Explore stories behind garments of the past and present.
Unveil the psychology behind our fashion choices.
Inspire you to curate a wardrobe that reflects YOU.
Every Monday I’ll be publishing a free piece. On Fridays, I’ll publish The Weekend post for paid subscribers. It will include a combination of horrible new trends to avoid, what to wear, unraveling the mysteries of mom fashion, or the latest fashion book or film worth diving into. Please do comment below or drop me a message on what else you’d like to hear about. Your fashion cravings are my command, so don't be shy. Nevertheless, with excitement and a dash of rebellion, I’m delighted to embark on this journey.
Fatally Yours,
Betsy Cohen
Looking forward to learning from you dear Betsy!
